Auditions
Auditions for the 2012-2013 season are Saturday, June 2nd at Olympic College. There is a $25.00 fee. Please call the BSA office at (360) 373-1722 to schedule your audition.
Who should audition?
Any student musician who has had at least one year of experience on an orchestral instrument is welcome to audition for the Bremerton Symphony Youth Orchestra. Woodwind and brass players younger than the 7th grade should have at least two years of experience on their instrument. Auditions are heard by members of the BSA artistic staff. There is a $25 fee required at the time of Spring auditions. Auditions later in the season may incur a higher fee. All qualified students will be offered placement in the orchestra, based on skill and experience as demonstrated in the audition.
What will I play at my audition?
Each audition lasts about ten minutes and includes:
Strings:
- 2-3 Min. Prepared Piece, no accompaniment needed, memorization not required, should demonstrate your abilities as a musician. Suggestions provided on PDF.
- Major and minor scales from PDF.
- Sightreading music provided at audition
- PDF for BSYO Bass Repertory, BSYO Cello Repertory, BSYO Viola Repertory, and BSYO Violin Repertory
Woodwind and Brass:
- 2-3 Min. Prepared Piece, no accompaniment needed, memorization not required, should demonstrate your abilities as a musician.
- 2 octave scales up to 3 sharps or 3 flats in the key signature. Major and minor.
- Sightreading music provided at audition
Percussion:
- 2-3 min. snare drum excerpt of your choice displaying your ability on the instrument, bring your own drum.
- Optional 2-3 min. mallet excerpt of your choice
- Optional 2-3 min. timpani excerpt of your choice
- Sightreading excerpt provided at audition

What else do I need to know?
Just about everybody gets nervous in auditions, but try to relax and have fun. Our goals are to get to know you and your playing and to find a place in our programs for you to learn and succeed in music. The BSYO would like to place all students who seek to participate.
